Papercast Sculptures

Paper casts are wonderful and unique sculptures. Originally sculpted in clay, the image is then covered in plaster to make a mold. Once the mold hardens, it can be removed from the clay sculpture. A mixture of water and cotton linter is then blended into a paper pulp consistency. The paper mixture is then carefully pressed by hand into the plaster mold. The paper mixture is blotted with a sponge to remove the excess moisture and to speed the drying process.

Once dry, the paper cast can then be removed from the mold and mounted and framed.
